Life begins at 50
We hear a lot about this new generation of young golfers who spend as much time in the gym as they do on the course; the guys who bomb it a mile and reduce 7,500 yard courses to pitch and putt.
Now, we're not saying Paul Broadhurst doesn't go to the gym and we're not suggesting he's short off the tee by any means, but the 50-year-old thoroughly deserved his moment in the spotlight this weekend and it reminded us of one of the reasons we love golf so much - age is just a number!
'Broady' produced a flawless final round at Carnoustie to claim a two-shot victory at the Senior Open Championship, a fine way to celebrate his debut in the event. The high-class field contained names - the likes of Tom Watson (66), Bernhard Langer (58) and Ian Woosnam (58) - who would have made Broadhurst feel quite the whippersnapper, as we were treated to a weekend of high drama courtesy of some of the game's biggest names from yesteryear.
This week sees the final Major of the season get underway at Baltusrol in Springfield, N.J., the drama keeps on coming! Whatever happens, you probably won't see a better final-day performance than Broady's four-under 68, quite some performance at Carnoustie we must say, check out the highlights if you missed the action.
