One from the Practice Tee

This week I worked on setup position with Adam, getting his head tilt correct allowed him to get the club away on plane and complete his turn. See below the changes.

Club news

Hickory Challenge - FIVE SPACES LEFT

The Hickory Challenge kick starts our celebration year and it would be great to see a full turnout experiencing how the game used to be played. The aim is to have a fun afternoon playing with the old clubs.

- Individual competitions open to Men’s, Ladies and Juniors with prizes for each

- Stableford points with full handicap

- A special Hickory Challenge course will be set up

- The organisers will prepare Hickory handicaps for the challenge

- Played over 7 holes: 3rd to 9th in fourballs

- A set of specially sourced hickory clubs will be shared between two players within the fourball

- Two tee times with a shotgun start: 12pm and 2pm

- Nearest the pin on the 8th hole

- Separately, there will be a Hickory long drive competition on the 1st hole and a Hickory putting competition next to the 1st tee

- Entry is £10 per player, to cover some of the cost of the club hire

There is no need to dress for the occasion, normal golfing attire is allowed, although it would be interesting to see who clothes of the times.

Practice Facilities Membership

The NEW Indoor Studio is looking fantastic, it gives you the chance to play some of the iconic courses from around the world and to practice in perfect conditions. Our Indoor Putting Area is also ideal for practice and putter fitting. If you haven’t already had a look please call in.

Entering his prime?

“I’m getting older, but I feel I’m getting better” – Paul Casey.

There’s hope for us all yet then. 41-year-old Englishman Paul Casey claimed his own piece of PGA Tour history by becoming the first man to successfully defend the Valspar Championship at the weekend.

For Casey, it seems victories are like buses; you wait nine years between tournament wins and then two come along in the space of 12-months, and it could not have come at a better time. Three weeks out from The Masters, the entire field toiled during windy conditions on the Copperhead Course but, despite shooting a 1-over 72 on Sunday, Casey held his nerve to steal a one-shot victory.

Johnson breaks wind

Before Sunday's play commenced, many thought it would be a Ryder Cup-style shootout between world number one Dustin Johnson and Casey. However, this never really materialised as DJ struggled to his first over-par final round since the Genesis Open (mid-Februray!) with a three-over-par 74.

With no birdies, it also proved to be the first time since the 2017 WGC HSBC-Championship that Johnson failed to record a single hole under par in a final round. Despite this, the American still ended tied-sixth for his fourth straight top-ten finish; not bad for an off day.

Quiz time

Paul Casey’s back-to-back Valspar victories is impressive stuff, but he is not the first Englishman to win the tournament.
