Maintenance

While we have all been staying at home the greenkeepers have still been hard at work, maintaining and improving our course for when we all return. Work has now begun on the removal of none native pines to the rear of the 10th green. Three copses of pine trees will be left. The trees are being removed to aid with the air movement which will help to dry up the areas around the 10th green, 11th hole and 12th tees. The trees also used to cast a shadow over the 10th green for most of the winter which made the green more prone to turf diseases as well as being one of the last greens to thaw whenever frosts were present. The greens staff have cleared a portion of these trees - vastly improving airflow and sunlight to the course.

More airflow and sunlight will result in this area of the course becoming drier and an improved putting surface on the 10th hole.

The return of the prize draw!

Following the success of our "driver for a fiver" draw, we are running another one! The same format will apply, enter by email (david.mather@foremostgolf.com) or via our Facebook pages (David Mather Golf, Joe Clements PGA).

This time we have a set of 3 custom-fitted wedges on offer! (These can be any from the brands we stock: Titleist, TaylorMade Callaway or PING).

Tell us how many squares you'd like and if you have any preferences on numbers feel free to send them too, we will do our best to accommodate, but once they're gone they're gone! Numbers 1-100 will be available again at £5 each. For those of you who have the BACS details from the last draw, payment is welcome to the same details, anyone that wants to enter and doesn't have them please let us know on entry and we will get them too you.

On another note, we do not have demo stuff filtering through from the companies. TaylorMade SIM2 and the Callaway Epic Speed and Apex ranges have already been delivered in anticipation for when we can resume custom fitting. PING G425 range is due imminently and the Titleist TSi range is already in store.

Anyone that does want to try any new equipment as soon as we resume please do get in touch, thank you to all those that already have. Fittings will be very sought after so registering your interest is highly recommended! If when we resume you don't want to do it right away, but have had your name on the list, that's no problem. We will just work down it until everyone has been asked. After this list, there will be no priority system and be first come first serve as normal.

We also have some equipment from the manufacturers to be able to show you some of the new technologies on offer in the 2021 products. If anyone is interested in seeing what is inside the new products and how this will benefit you, please drop us an email (address above) and we will run a zoom session to show you what's different in 2021. (This will only run if there is enough interest).

Did you see the big news?

The R&A and USGA – golf’s two governing bodies who set out the rules for both playing the sport and the making of equipment – announced their proposals to combat the increasing distance in golf.

One of the proposals is to limit the length of a driver shaft to 46 inches. It makes for interesting timing given Bryson DeChambeau’s quest for maximum distance by trialling a 48-inch model in recent months. A driver that wouldn’t be permitted if such a proposal was introduced.

It’s fair to say that the overall reception has been mixed. On one hand, you have Bryson who has given his support to the proposed changes and believes it is “flattering” that they might restrict the length of a driver based on his recent performance. However, it’s safe to say Rory McIlroy had a slightly different opinion, believing the money and attention should be focused away from the 0.01% at the top of the game:

"We have to make the game as easy and approachable as possible for the majority of golfers."

"It's (about) the grassroots. It's getting more people engaged in golf.”

All being said, we don’t think anyone would disagree with Rory on this front. What are your thoughts? Are you in favour of the proposed changes?

A little bit of magic

It’s common knowledge that golf tournaments are often decided on the greens, but the Waste Management Phoenix Open evolved into a chip-off late on Sunday.

Brooks Koepka produced a moment of magic – a tricky chip holed-out for eagle on 17 – to earn him the title. On the other hand, some had moments to forget (sorry, Xander Schauffele!), but either way, it was fascinating to see how much goes into short-range wedge shots for the PGA Tour’s finest.

A new season treat
