In this week's newsletter, we're rolling back the years as we take a look at one of golf's most famous drivers of all time and compare it to today's equivalent. We'll be working our way through the bag over the next few weeks so be sure to keep an eye out for our weekly emails!

Shop News

Although the shop doesn't open until April 12th it doesn't mean we aren't busy. We have been very busy behind the scenes to improve the layout of the shop and we have also taken delivery of a lot of new stock, in particular PING Apparel. This is something we haven't stocked before and are very excited for you all to see it when time allows.

We will be running a Click & Collect service from the 29th until the 12th of April to make sure you all have everything you need to get going and playing again. This will be done by the "Order, Pay, Collect" scheme you might have seen us putting out already. We will send some more details out next week when we have it all set up. All orders will be ready just for you to pop down and collect at the shop.

Anyone wishing to pre-order any of the new equipment can do so by email or Facebook message. We have lots of stock of TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist and PING. We are willing to offer you all the chance to pre-order and reserve a driver now when we have them all readily available. If you then get it and think you need a different shaft then we will be able to swap it for you at NO EXTRA COST! Please note: We won't be able to get the loft swapped or head type. If you are unsure of what you need, book in for a fitting and we can sort that out right away!

Club News

As many of you already know there is a big project underway at the club to completely overhaul the rose garden area around the side of the clubhouse near the putting green to create additional outdoor seating and hospitality space. On the left here you can see a sneak peek of the project which is planned to open on Friday 16th April.

If you are near the club between now and the opening please try to stay away from the area, we appreciate you all will be keen to see it but work will be continuing on it and we have to ensure the safety of you all and the workforce on site.

Lessons & Custom Fitting

Lessons and custom fitting as I'm sure most of you know can start from 29th of March. We have been in touch with everyone that left their name to be contacted now.... we think! If we have missed anyone or you want to book in for a session in the opening 2 weeks get in touch with us using david.mather@foremostgolf.com

HUGE NEWS! From April 12th all lessons and custom fit sessions will be booked online! There is a short video below to show you all just how easy it is to book! The system is LIVE NOW and available to start booking!! (If you already have a block booking or a voucher, please press the pay on arrival button)

If you don't want to book using the online system, need an evening slot or have any problems booking online we will still take bookings in the shop and over the phone as normal.

"Get back to golf" group coaching - This is something we have been approached by the ladies section to host in order to get everyone hitting the ground running as quickly as possible. We have also today just put it to the senior's section in order to get everyone going again. This would consist of 10 group coaching sessions, priced at £8 per session or £60 for all 10, saving £20.

We've already had some responses to this which is great, but we will be limiting the number of groups we will be doing. These will go on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are looking to start the sessions as close to the 29th of March as possible, giving us a rough end date of week commencing 7th June.

TaylorMade Fitting Event

I am excited to announce that we have booked an exclusive TaylorMade fitting experience on APRIL 16th where all will have the opportunity to go through a Tour-level custom club fitting.

During these unprecedented times, TaylorMade has taken advanced measures to ensure your health and safety, as well as that of our staff and their team.

Those measures include:

- Fitting reps are required to use face coverings at all fitting events

- Customers attending fitting experiences are encouraged, but not required, to wear face coverings (not supplied by TaylorMade)

- All fittings will be limited to 1-on-1 experiences with social distancing practices

- Fitting reps are equipped with a sanitization kit that includes disinfectant wipes, hand sanitiser, disinfectant soap, towels and sterilized brushes

- Golf equipment will be cleaned and sterilized following each usage

Rest assured that your health and safety is the No. 1 priority for both our club and TaylorMade. We will ask that you respect the precautions by not attending if you have a cough or fever (or have had in the last 14 days), have been exposed to someone who has had COVID-19 in the last 14 days or might otherwise expose our staff or other guests to unnecessary risk.

Golf on Tour

Austin Ernst stormed to victory at the LPGA Drive On Championship, going wire-to-wire to finish on -15 and cruise past Jennifer Kupcho by five strokes, despite the 2019 Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion’s 72nd hole eagle.

Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau was anything but cruising as Lee Westwood forced a straight shoot-out on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Invitational. The American was victorious, though, thanks in part to driving 370+ yards over a lake on the par-5 sixth hole on both Saturday and Sunday. Talk about entertainment!

Then & now!

Whenever a brand new driver comes out, it’s hard to imagine things getting any better. There have been some incredible innovations in recent years and who’s to say where we’ll be in 15 years? Why don’t we take a deeper dive into how old drivers compare to the latest models?

PING drivers from 2006 vs. 2021

If we take PING drivers as an example, we can look at the 2006 G5 driver – a beloved figure on courses around the world in its heyday - compared to the various models in the brand-new PING G425 driver range. The G5 did give you a higher, more forgiving launch than most clubs at the time, and even came in an offset version to appeal to a wider range of golfers.

Taking that to another level, the G425 comes in a Max (maximum MOI), LST (low-spin technology) & SFT (straight flight technology) models, meaning all players are catered for. When it comes to the spin we generate around the greens, is it really as simple as saying fresh grooves/wedges spin more than old/worn ones? And, if so, where does that fine-line sit between our wedges giving us the spin we need and when we need to think about replacing them?
