Nearly back!

In our final newsletter written from home (hopefully!), we'd like to firstly thank each and every one of you that has continued to support us through this latest lockdown period. The support felt from me (Joe) and David at home has been fantastic. With our situation made even more complicated with David's health troubles the support everyone has shown us through this tricky period has not gone unnoticed. A special mention must go to the golf club too. They have also given David absolutely fantastic support through all of his treatment from day one. THANK YOU, EVERYONE!

On David's health, I can assure you he is continuing to make fantastic progress with his treatment plan and only has a couple of months to go. I think you'll all join me in wishing him all the very best for his last 2 months of what has been a particularly gruelling period combined with a lockdown for good measure! Hopefully, we all see him back at the club and his beloved "teaching emporium"/shed soon.

At the golf club, we've been very busy over the last 3/4 weeks taking in a lot of new 2021 stock, which I'm sure most of you have now seen the new club ranges from TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist and PING. I'm pleased to say we now have fitting equipment in all of the new models and look forward to giving them all a good workout next week!

2021 also sees us bring NEW ranges to the shop. In a period of reflection in November (Lockdown 2.0) we made the decision to bring in some brand new brands to the shop, things which we have not stocked before. We are pleased to announce that we will be a PING Apparel stockist for 2021 and have full access to the range. We have picked what we think are the best bits for the shop, but if there is something in their range you'd like more then we can order it for you have it within 2/3 days. We look forward to seeing what you all think of it! Along with this, we have expanded on the Callaway apparel range that we brought to the shop in 2020. With multiple closures, this has us excited and feels like a new product all over again!

Some more exciting news we are in the process of building a NEW website and a NEW newsletter! Lockdown has its benefits I guess! This will be a lot more modern looking and easier to use than our current website, linking to our online booking system better and being able to give you all a better experience when looking at it on a smartphone or tablet. For parts of this website, we are looking for YOUR help! If you have any landscape photos of the course, any lessons or custom fits, the studio, the clubhouse, anything! Whatever it is we'd like to see them and we'll use the best ones for our new website! We also normally wouldn't ask for this but we feel it will greatly improve the site - if anyone would be willing to do a testimonial for us we would be very grateful. Whether it be about lessons, shop service, shop prices, shop range, custom fitting, new clubs or absolutely anything else that either David, myself or Tracy have helped you with!

Any photos and testimonials that we use, we will put their owners into a prize draw and pick some winners when the new site launches in early April!

Results

Not long till this bit re-appears! It feels like forever since putting in the places, but that is not far away. Competition golf will be running from Wednesday 31st March (Seniors) and we have a competition on both Saturday AND Sunday (3rd and 4th April) so there's plenty of golf on the horizon! About time! Be sure to check the club's website for any fixture changes and amendments.

Whilst we might not be able to welcome you back into the shop just yet we do have a very exciting array of 2021 golf products for all your needs available now! All you have to do is hit the button below sending us an email of what you would like, we will process the order, let you know when it is ready and hit the link below to book your collection slot. Easy! Payment of card on collection is preferred but can send BACS details for those of you who would rather do that. Slots are limited slightly as we will not be on full operating hours until the 12th of April, if there is not a slot convenient to you get in touch and we will make other arrangements.

Junior Coaching

Free coaching

As we get back to golf we also resume the coaching and the junior programme. Anyone with kids or junior members that you know can sign up for FREE junior coaching using the online lesson booking system. Dates for this are Wednesday 7th April and Friday 9th April, both at 2:30 pm for an hour. Strictly limited to 6 places each so be quick! Click here to book.

We will also be on the lookout for volunteers to help support our junior programme again this year. After the disruption of last year hopefully, we can get back on track with the young guns! This might be to help with a bit of admin or some supervision of coaching sessions. Anyone interested please email us at the usual address, it can be as much or as little as you like!

Making the highlight reel

40-year-old Australian Matt Jones claimed victory at The Honda Classic on the beautiful-but-challenging PGA National golf course, with Denmark’s Sebastian Cappelen going shirtless for a watery chip before Wesley Bryan removed shoes and trousers for a couple of shots. That’s one way to make the highlight reel!

On the European Tour, Justin Harding proved the importance of avoiding errors as he went bogey-free in the final round to win the Magical Kenya Open. Sure, he did have a few birdies and an eagle on the day, but it was the bogey avoidance that saw him reign supreme.

We might not have the same wildlife as Nairobi’s Karen Country Club, but we can help you dodge those mistakes this season with a series of one-to-one lessons with a member of the team.

On the move

You probably think of your trolley as just a handy way to take the weight of a full golf bag off your shoulders as you walk the course (which it is), but nowadays your trolley can also take a huge weight off your mind as you play.

New Motocaddy GPS trolleys

Last year marked a significant upgrade in the world of GPS electric trolleys, and this year is set to follow suit.

To begin with, Motocaddy has added GPS technology to its highly popular M3 model for the first time! As the screen below shows, you will be able to view key yardages to the green at the quickest of glances.

If you want more then the M5 GPS gives you all of this but on a larger, higher-resolution touchscreen. In addition, you'll be presented with a dynamic green view that allows you to drag & drop the pin to match what you're faced with on the course.

1-iron or hybrid?

No matter how good you are, it’s easy to feel intimidated when placing an old-school 1-iron or 2-iron behind the ball. With the compact, ultra-thin head, you’d be forgiven for having a crisis of confidence at address… But that can be an issue. With a hybrid, however, the larger head and the shape of the sole give you a real safety net as you strike the ball.

Which would you prefer?

Perhaps the biggest game-changer of the 21st Century, the popularity of hybrids has soared in recent years. Why hit a 1 or 2-iron when the benefits of a hybrid – higher, more forgiving launch - are staring you in the face? The more shots you hit, the more you’ll notice the consistency and forgiveness you’re gaining, with the versatility to strike the ball from anywhere and any lie adding another benefit over traditional long-irons.

TaylorMade SIM2 Hybrids

At the pinnacle of this modern engineering is TaylorMade’s SIM2 & SIM2 Max hybrids. The forged C300 steel face really optimises that desired launch and distance, whilst the V-Steel sole gives you smooth ground interaction for a clean, consistent strike from tight lies, deep rough and even bunkers.
